I got a King kamfa flowerhorn from my LFS last night. The plan was to get him in my 265g (separated section just for him).

NH3 = 0 (yellow)
NO2 = 0 (light blue)
NO3 = a little high (i would say orangish, not red)

Acclimated him and got him in the tank. Initially he was not keenly interested, but I attributed that to the change in water parameters and journey.

However, through the night he started to stay on the top of the water. When I checked early morning - he had air bubbles all over his body and was still on the top.

As soon as I saw this, I got him to my 125g. I should have taken a pic so I could post but, at the moment, I was only trying to get him into another tank. He became totally fine in the 125. The one thing that I noticed soon after he was moved was a film, which went away soon (I have this pic though).

I need to get him back into the 265, as thats really my show tank in the living room.

Has anybody gone through this earlier/does anybody know why this would be happening? All suggestions are welcome.

I assume that they are other fish in the 265. How are they doing?
Air bubbles form on surfaces sometimes when the water is saturated with oxygen and it can’t hold it any longer.
Usually you see this when filling a new tank.
I don’t believe that’s is what is happening in this case.

It could be something in the tank was irritating to the FH causing it to over produce it’s slim coat.
It would be best if you could preform the tests on the water and take a picture of the results.

+1 Also I don’t know what you payed for that “king kamfa” but that is just a regular zz red dragon flowerhorn.

Looks like stress to me. I have a male that will shed his slime coating if something is pressed against the tank, like a shelving unit being moved. I find it to be pathetic that he does this, and sometimes make fun of him for it. Yes, I bully my flowerhorn when he acts like a wimp. haha. A swift change in PH or other water parameters can also cause this. My bet is that it is one of those two things.
