I got a King kamfa flowerhorn from my LFS last night. The plan was to get him in my 265g (separated section just for him).

NH3 = 0 (yellow)
NO2 = 0 (light blue)
NO3 = a little high (i would say orangish, not red)

Acclimated him and got him in the tank. Initially he was not keenly interested, but I attributed that to the change in water parameters and journey.

However, through the night he started to stay on the top of the water. When I checked early morning - he had air bubbles all over his body and was still on the top.

As soon as I saw this, I got him to my 125g. I should have taken a pic so I could post but, at the moment, I was only trying to get him into another tank. He became totally fine in the 125. The one thing that I noticed soon after he was moved was a film, which went away soon (I have this pic though).

I need to get him back into the 265, as thats really my show tank in the living room.

Has anybody gone through this earlier/does anybody know why this would be happening? All suggestions are welcome.

Sounds like a tough transition period. Some extra slime coat production from stress. Temp swings could show the bubbling seen. Would watch and keep the water clean.

Never had a situation like that so sorry I couldn't advise, but do you have a full pic? -- from what's shown tbh he looks more like an SRD than a Kamfa but can't tell without more view of the rest of his body.
