Is it necessary for panda cories to air gulp. I am keeping one in a container inside of my tank (temporary maybe for a few months). I left an air pocket for him incase (which could easily be disturbed i.e if container was bumped by large fish in the tank). Was wondering if this was necessary.

yes. it has to due withtheir bouyancy[mispelled] and something else, but i can't remember lol

Is there any reason why you are keeping one in the container instead of allowing it to venture around the tank?

I recently got a 6" ornate bichir, who was supposed to go in my large tank. However he's still too timid to stand his ground right now and I had to take him out and move him into my pandas' tank. This in turn made me have to move my pandas, I do not want to set up another entire system, for the few months my bichir will need to... well baiscally grow a set. He was previously in this tank for years however he has been out of the tank for sometime now and I do not want him to be dinner for my other fish.

You can simply place established filter media in the new setup. It's a fast process. Just check your water parameters to make sure the tank is safe to place fish in.

I did. There is no filtration or heat for the container the cory is in, and doing a complete water change every other day is not in the cards for me. Especially when it's much easier to put the conatiner in a tank that already has a complete filter/ temp control/ and water flow system. It's only temporary, and I have done something like this before (but not with a fish that also requires being able to gulp air). My question pertained to whether the cory could go for a while without being able to gulp air incase one of my large fish disturbed the air pocket i put in his container that he is currently in.
