air hungry fish

im noticing several of my large fish taking in air from the top of the tank even though i have a 240 with 4 extra long airstone---why is this do i need more airstones

What fish are these in question? What are your water parameters? What test kit are you using?

with good filtration you do not need any airstones at all. Fish gasping at the surface for air is a indication of extremely bad water parameters. --------------Is this a new set up? And what are the test readings of the water?

completly agre and usually i would say high amonia
