why is the biggest issue i have at the moment is these air lines coming apart overnight and the suction cups coming loose? Does anyone have advice on how to end the madness? i want to install them and have them stay, or replace them with something that will.

You can try rigid air line all the way to the bottom of your tank. I used it for a while with suction cups but eventually they came out of the tabs, or the suction cups came off the walls. The rigid tubing still provided enough support to keep it in place.
And I don’t know if they make it for sponge filters, but I now use magnets in place of all my power heads that used suction cups. They have magnetic bases you can buy and I’ll never go back to suction cups for the same reason you’re tired of them.

:iagree: lose the suction cups for magnets. rigid tubing in tank helps a ton. You can also swap the cheap check valve and tubing for higher quality valve with less back pressure and black silicone tubing. That will pretty much eliminate hose pop off. Also if your pumps are above your tank and you route your air lines correctly you don't even need the check valves
