I own a 205 gal with a 70 gal wet and dry. 75% of the wet and dry is open, there a 4 chambers. The biggest has 1500 bio balls, 2 more have noddles and the last the pump.
The fillter cycles the tank about 9 times an hour.
Do i really need air pumped into the tank?
I did have one AC/DC into the fillter and one AC/DC into the tank, but the don't last long and now i have only one into the tank. Can i gat away without air?
Thanks in advance.

bump for a good question.

xtra air is never a bad thing...just ask your fish.

205 gallon tank, but what is it stocked with? What? How many? How big? Temp? Nitrate level? Water changes- how often and how much?

Nice filtration, but without knowing the above questions no one can accurately answer your question.

Sorry forgot about this thread, (i never post here)
stock: 1 RTG 20"
1 NTT 7"
6 Clown loaches.
W/C 40 to 50% every week in one hit.
Temp: Depends what the weather is like on any given day. I don't need heaters.

Water perams are always stable, Nitrate (there the OK ones right?) above 0, about .5 max. P.H 7.5.

I don't want to run a risk, so how about air going in the sump instead of the tank?
Thanks

It all depends on the surface area of your tank. If your tank is a very tall tank then you may want to add a bubbler in case of the pump failing. I had it happen twice where the water pump had stopped but the air pump kept on going which lead to no casualties. But to answer your question..If everything is running then you definitely do not need an air pump. Wet dry filters does an excellent job of gas exchange already.

I wrote the footprint. Just out of curiosity, if your pump stopped what happened to the boi media? I thought it dies and turn toxic pretty quickly without air.

I was under theimpression that it was the water agitaion at the surface that made the O2 exchange into the water..........
