While I was in Lake Erie I was at a Walmart looking for some extra lures to target walleye with and picked up a 3 gallon air pump and wondering if there’s any way I can use it to circulate the water or what I’m wanting to do is connect it to my filter I already have just for extra water intake or set up a 5g bucket with some filter media stuff in it and have 2 pumps, one to take water out of the tank with and another to pump the water back into the tank with. Basically I’m wanting to build a low budget household material sump lol. I also have a 60gph pump that I can use instead.

You could set up an airlift, like old school undergravel filters, but probably more trouble that it's worth. Even that little 60gph pump will move more water.

Best if you really want to use it to just use it for aeration or circulation in the tank.

My end goal is to make water quality better for my flowerhorn to encourage growth. Would more aeration achieve this? I don’t think so but honestly I don’t know
