Just wondering if anyone does this and if so what are your results?

I took an ac70 and put a small air stone under the biomax, but above the sponge. I was hoping it would grow aerobic bacteria for nitrate and of course air the tank without placing a stone in the tank which clutters it up. If no one does this does anyone have an opinion?

Funny you ask because I was just thinking the same thing the other day.

It would be interesting to test this out by actually measuring the affects on say a newly setup tank?

Nitrate is comsumed by anaerobic bacteria which thrives in oxygen deficient conditions. There is already enough oxygen within the water to support the aerobic bacteria that consumes the ammonia and nitrites. I would say the air stone is not really doing anything.
