i have a question, i know some people believe that running a tank with a sump you no longer need an air stone, however must elaborate setups still have air stones in the tank, i'd like to keep my tank (Up top) looking as clean as possible, is it ok, to oxygenate the water in the sump, and just let the pump bring it all back up to the tank, my goal would be to keep all heaters and air stones in the sump, so the only thing in the tank is the fish and their decorations.

i've read through the forums, but haven't found a direct answer to this.

thanks in advance

Brian

Oxygen enters the water a few ways, aggitation, current, bubbles etc, a bubbler is a cheap way of reassuring this. Power goes out, it fires back up. I have 1 stone, looks natural.

And can put them on battery backup or have a battery powered unit on standby

i understand all that completely, so saying i want my bubbler to be my 100% assurance my water is getting oxygenated, if it's in the sump is it doing the same thing, or is it a waste if its down there?

I think what he is trying to say is yes its Probly not logical if your sump exit tube stirs up the surface of the water then it is already making oxygen available in the water... I run 4 hob filters and 2 power heads never needed a air stone I think there very tacky and like said their the cheap way of doing it and I don't think their efficient enough unless you double the called for amount imo.... Also its not hard to brake current in the top of the water
