Air Stones Or Not

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always have alot of airstones and surface agitation. Keeps that water oxeygenated!

depends on filtration and tank size, air stones are more for water circ. than anything...imo

just use powerheads. although id put an airstone in a fry tank.

agreed, because you don't want to shoot bits of fry through the tank. Airstones are cheap, but powerheads do more disturbances.

Air stones do help keep the water oxeygenated due to the surface agitation. Every Oscar that I have owned love swimming through the bubbles over and over again, even had a couple that would just lay on top of the bubble wand, must feel good to them. I think the movement the bubbles create adds to the beauty of the tank. I dont think any fish you have will have any problems with air stones.

yea ive had to use it when i seperated eggs from the tank too, to oxygenate the air, but more importantly to keep a decent flow of water to prevent fungus/bacterial growth on the pleco eggs. worked a treat too, i got a pretty high hatch rate.

I use a bubble wand in every tank I have, except my Betta tank.

I think its preference, some people don't like the bubbles, others love 'em. They do help provide a little more surface agitation so I suppose that they would help in a heavy load tank? Usally a powerhead and filtration can provide enough current ect?

I like bubble walls, I agree that O's like to play in the bubbbles.

Thanks for reminding me, I need to get a new air stone for the UGF in the betta tank.
