Hey guys,

Can anyone help me figure out airport to airport shipping? I'm trying to get some fish from Howell NJ to me in Dallas TX. UPS and FED EX for overnight are quoting about $140.
These are a couple of big fish, 6"+ and 7"+, so I'm a little worried about shipping in the first place.
Do you have to have an account with the airlines? If so, if I get an account, can I use it to have the seller ship it to me?
If shipping air cargo ends up being out.. do fish this size usually do okay being shipped over night? They are severums.

Thanks.

That price sounds way too high. I had a 3ft Panaque shipped in a wood crate with alot more water than 2 sevs would need. CA to MS cost me $130 AP to AP for the 112lb package. You should be fine with overnight. I've had way bigger fish shipped overnight with no problems.

That quote sounds really high for overnight then again I have gotten high overnight quotes before. I have had all kinds of fish, multiple boxes of fish, etc. shipped same day via air cargo for no more than $70. This was from different locations each time. All you do is have the seller call the airline and set-up the air cargo shipment and drop the shipment off at that airline air cargo - you don't need an account, you just drop it off like the post office. Then he should tell you the flight info and airline so you can arrive at air cargo for that airline at your airport when your shipment arrives and you just pay there and then (or at least I always paid when I picked up). I have never had any issues. I always do it this way because it was about the same or not more than $10 extra from the overnight quoted price and I can get it same day - no stress about it getting lost from stop to stop or if the fish will make it over night in a bag.

I always paid when I picked up too. Most I ever paid was $80 and it was a large AUL so your price seems a bit high? I never shipped a fish myseld but it seems to be exactly what Ash said from what I have seen at the counter while waiting for my fish to arive.

Edit $90, I just checked my records.

I have to agree with the others, that price you were quoted seems excessive. Shipping costs in the past were 65 per box. Vendor I dealt with added the shipping onto the original invoice so I didn't have to pay anything at pickup.
