Monoculus ;)
Just setup a 125g using a Fluval FX5

Currently cycling, but will be stocking with a 3" black aro, 3" peacock bass, and a 3" zebra shovelnose...

Is an airstone necessary with this setup?

No plants btw, just a bare bottom tank.

It never hurts during cycling to oxygenate the water as much as possible help produce beneficial bacteria faster. Also good if theres any slower flow areas in the tank. I say go for it all six of my tanks run air stones.

Not needed if you use your FX5 to break the water surface.
Not necessary but it will help regardless BB needs all the oxygen possible to grow.

No man not at all.

As long as there is some kind of surface water movement, an airstone is not really needed. But it does not hurt to have one either.

Not needed but I run them on all tanks because I like the look and extra surface current.
