Strange, UVS & still a algae issue, huuuummmmmmmm, amazing. :grinno: What size is the UVS & what is the FR out of it?

What sort of lighting do you have & how long is it on a day? Does it sit anywhere near a window, if so, how much sun does it get a day (dir. or indir) . + light total from additional lighting? Any plec's in your tank? What are your phos. levels from tap, tank & what is the phos's levels like in the food you feed them? :) :) :)

UV sterilizers do not do anything for algae, other than unicellular floating alga, and a couple rare alga. Water changes/monitoring water params is the primary thing you should be doing.

Agreed. Changing water to reduce nitrates is the best defense against algae.

well i do weekly or biweekly changes and i do have well water , i have a 180 gallon tank with a uv that is capable of handling the size tank. [ honestly cant remeber the size for it but i know i bought to handle the size ]

i guess i just have to cope with it

How old and what sort of light tubes do you have? Crap or old tubes = algae growth! Water changes never go astray either ;)

And as others have said check phosphate/nitrate and make sure it gets no direct sunlight (shouldnt be able to see into the tank when its light is off.....)

Chris.

try to do water changes everyweek, scrape then water change, try having water softener or vitamins good for ur fish and water as well, u myt want to have a pleco in there, thats what i did with mine, it solved my algae prob. by having a pleco and water changes once a week, though plecos sh*t alot.. but its easier for me to siphon it out.. rather than scraping the whole tank

I used a micron filter to remove the floating particles. It works wonders for me. But some algae will always be on the fake plants and on the glass in places I can't reach easily. You just have to keep it in check with good maintenance.
