I found an albino clown knife in my LFS for $18.95. He is about 9".

My concern is that there are blood vessel ruptures in his fin, and the fins are tattered. I am assuming its because he has a stressful trip, but I don't want to buy a fish even at an amazing price if it is going to die. I was told that Melafix would be a sure way to fix him as long as I keep up with water changes.

He has only been there for two days and came in with a royal knife that is similar in size, but that one seems to have one large anchor worm on him.

Is anchor worm easy to treat? I was told by someone to use copper, but I have soft scaled fish so he thought maybe I should try "fluke tabs" instead if I were to buy him. They only want $32 for him.

Another question is about temperament, I read the stickies about clown knives, but I still want to know if the clown knife can get along with an oscar, and some bottom dwellers like polypterus.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

(sorry if this is a scattered post, my mind has felt just as scattered all day.)

Well...if it was a true albino, you got a goodie:thumbsup: It's more likely a Golden CK. I wouldn't worry too much about the fins. They are pretty hardy fish. As for the worms, I've never used copper, but I've used Prazipro. Good stuff. Since you have scaleless fish (I'm assuming that's what you meant by "soft scale"), you should just do half the dosage of what is recommended. CKs are usually pretty mellow. There are those that have an aggressive streak, but most will get along with the stock you have.

Well I am hoping it is a true albino... I didn't get that good of a look at him, but I am going back in the morning to have them move the deco around so I can see his eyes.

Would the golden have red eyes like an albino?

I am going to do some pic research so I can tell the difference when I go in.

I will have to try just half dosage, thank you for the info!

Golden CKs tend to be more of a cream/tan color. A true albino is pretty white from what I've seen...maybe a bit yellowish as well. But with CKs it can be tricky because their eyes are reflective. But it's pretty easy to tell apart. Albinos usually lack the spots more than Golden CKs, but I have been seeing more Golden Spotless CKs coming in lately.

Hmmmmm.... Well if it is a golden, is $18.95 still a good deal? they have him labeled as an "albino", but Who knows if they really know, or are just being tricksters. lol.

I will get a pic of him when I go in, maybe someone will be able to tell the difference if I cant, I have tried looking up the pics on google, but nothing really helpful there.

Depends on the area...CKs and Golden CKs can vary from $5-$10.

Well then I hope he is an Albino. :D I am in the Seattle area in Washington state.

Clown knives here are really iffy. One guy wants $90 for a regular one that is maybe 16", and only has 4 spots on each side, where another LFS wants $50 for a 26" with tons of beautiful leopard like spots. So it is weird. I have seen baby regular CKs go for $7, and there is a Royal at the same shop as the "albno" I have been talking about going for only $30, where I have seen them go for over $50 other shops.

I am excited to go back and see him to find out!

Well I went back for the "albino" Ck today, It is hard to tell if he is a golden or not. I can not see any spots, well barely... they are like 5% visible, and only at the exact right light and angle. here are a couple pics, but they don't show his color very well cause they are under the tank lights which are yellowish. I never really found out of the albino would have a pink pupil, or entire pink eye.

I also tried to take a video, but he is pretty shy after all the trauma today. lol.
