Okay get over me using the common name but, I was at the stores and I came across a albino kenyi... the moron working their did not know what it was so... told me it was 5 dollars more than any other fish in the tank, becuase she did not know what it was... I may go back and get it... for like 5 buck...

I know it is a kenyi because it looks like one with red eyes and white with a little yellow to top of dorsal fin. It shows the black bars as well... it is alost three inches by the way... and I measure everything short...

if you disbelieve me on that check all the scrap wood in the garage from trying to build some shelves... measure twice cut 100 times... I suck...

It this possible or I am totally wrong... I do not have pics, but I might go buy it and put in a tank somewhere.... wanted to know if it is rare or not...

Seems silly that one specific fish costs 5 bucks more even though she had no idea what it was? I would try to talk that $5 down...

Are you sure it wasn't an albino greshakei? Not saying it isn't possible, just never seen one and if it was in a misc tank like it sounds like that is by far the more likely canidate. (As apposed to it being an albino Metriaclima lombardoi).

I didnt think of that, although after looking at my two they dont have the same barring as a kenyi, more like a zebra and its very faint.

I know it was not a albino greshakei the were in the tank with it and the Kenyi were on the other side of the divider when he swam up near the divider all the females swam up to him by the divider...

I can't say I've heard of or seen an albino lombardoi yet. Might have also been an albino zebra or barry M. callainos?
Any any case, if it is lombardoi, then neat. I'd like to see one.
As for buying it for the fact, unless you liked it that much more than the normal ones then I wouldn't bother. Albinism is a mutation that pops up in plenty of other species. It's also possible that the mutation in this species is due to hybridization. Albino everything else (greshakei, auratus, socolofi, callainos, peacocks) is of questionable lineage as it is.
If I liked it that much I'd get it. If not then there just wouldn't be any reason for me to.

good point... I know that albinoism can also occur in real life with out hyberization, and if it came from a farm there is a chance that with hundred or thousand of these buggers mating it could happen, but of course I have alot of really nice mbuna and haps... some hard to find in my area (Indiana) and for some reason we have a great selection of them... so I would not want to risk it... If I did get it, it would go in the fish room in its own setup...

His own digs would be a good idea. Shoot I'd be tempted to set up a 50 with the albino and some brood siblings to see if I could get any more albinos to pop up. But I'd have to have the tank space to spare lol. :D
