I've been looking for what I thought to be an lfs staple, an Albino N. notopterus, aka Asian Knifefish, aka bronze featherback, aka grey featherback.

I've looked extensively online, searched or called local lfs just asking if they could get them. In all of my searching I've only found one seller that can get them, I'd have to buy 6 and he can only get the regular/wild color variety.

I just don't get it. I remember once upon a time Albino N. notopterus were availble everywhere for next to nothing.

Are they extremely rare now?

N. notopterus are much like the african brown knife in appearance but they have a dorsal fin and they get larger. The first two vids in this link are the fish I'm talking about. If some one could embed them that would be great, I cant seem to get it to work.

Although both color forms are beautiful I'd really love to find an albino. Make that 3 or 4 of them, I have multiple tanks so crowding won't be an issue.

those are an lfs staple? the only time I have heard of notopterus notopterus is from asian aquashops... never even heard of the albino var.

Wow. In the mid 90's I ran the fish dept of a chain petstore and got both normal and albino in the shop on a regular basis.

Oh well, if I have to import the darn things I'm going to get some. At least I can get the normals. Just not sure what I'm gonna do with six of them! :WHOA:

Are you sure it was N. notopterus and not another sp?

 I've showed you, Yu Chia's Albino N. Notopterus. :grinno: You have bad memory, IMO these N. Notopterus aren't as common in US anymore. ;)
