I just got my first albino senegal bichir from my LFS after seeing it swim around in their tank pretty actively during the afternoons that I visited and decided to take it home to a 100 gallon tank. When I did take it home however it just hit behind some rocks and has never come to the surface or even midpart of the tank to swim and is alot less active than it was at the LFS. I'm kind of worried since I've been trying to feed it pellets but since they float perhaps he won't come to the surface to eat/know that it's there. Will I need to use tongs to feed it the pellets directly? :(

well polypterus go on "hunger strikes" and won't eat for a couple weeks some times. I wouldn't be worried he is just getting used to his new surroundings. As far as the pellets you don't have to feed him with tongs but if you can get some sinking pellets and put them in his area that would help greatly as he would be able to sense the foods presence better.

+1 many fish stay hidden for a short while when they're taken out of what they've been livin in and are put into a new place. Leave lights off for longer than you normally would
