Hey guys so I have an albino silver about 6” and he’s in with a 7-7.5” silver and a 5” black. The silver and black are perfectly fine but the albino has recently slowed down a lot on his eating, and starting hanging out by the bottom and not swimming around Much. No signs of any disease really, just a small hazy spot on one of his eyes that’s been going away, the water tests 0 for ammonia and nitrites and less than 5 for nitrates. I use the api masterkit. I thought maybe the constant moving of the red scats was stressing him out so I removed the scats and it seems to have gotten worse since I removed the scats. Any ideas? I’ll try and post a video later.

Maybe it’s possible aggression from the other Erewhon us. Removing some of the scat another distracting fish maybe not brings attention to the albino silver one. Maybe temporarily just using a divider and separating the fish for a little while till settle down.

+1

Okay well what I did was I put a divider in for the scats, I know my black and silver weren’t bothered by the scats at all so maybe I should move the scats back in to the side with the silver and black and put the albino on the divided side? I just don’t wanna stress him out too much. It’s one thing if I lose hundreds of dollars if he dies but hes my baby lol

Why not just separate the albino aro instead for a while?

Yes. Definitely don’t want to stress it out.

I’m just hoping separating him won’t stress him out. I’ve been doing 1/3 water changes every 3 days or so. I usually don’t do them that often I usually do one large water change a week, but I figured I’d give it a try. The water doesn’t show any ammonia or nitrites even before water changes. I’ve been treating with prime(chlorinated town water) but last night I added some stress coat in with the prime since I noticed the slight white spot on his one eye. They’re all currently eating krill, hikari food sticks, and occasionally I’ll throw some tilapia in there

Hazy/Cloudy eyes are signs of nitrates. I highly doubt the nitrates are less than 5. Maybe in the 40-80. It's possible that you performed the test incorrectly. With API test kit, ammo and nitrites are very simple; however, nitrate test is a little complicated and you have to follow instruction to get an accurate reading. Shake the #2 bottle for at least 30 secs before adding to the test tube. Then shake the tube continuously for at least 1 min.

I did the test wrong the first couple of times and I was happy since all readings were good. Ammo 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10. Then my fish had cloudy eyes, I searched and performed the test properly, nitrate reading came out to be 40-80 and my fish tank has more than 200 lucky bamboo, some potho and peace lily in it. Unless your tank is a heavily planted tank, it's almost impossible to get nitrates <5 with that many fish.

I would test your tab water as well since some tab water may have ammo, nitrite and nitrate. It's better if you have RO water. Rain water would be best for Arowana. I use rain water for my Arowana tank as they prefer slightly acidic water and rain water does not have any nitrate.

Okay today’s update, last night before I I went to bed I took the scats out of the divided side and put them back in with the black and silver and moved the albino into the divided side, instantly he perked up and started eating. Him and the silver kinda flare up at each other through the divider but all seems good now. My silver seemed to be the one stressing him out. I thought that was wierd because the black is significantly smaller than the silver I though for sure that’s the one the silver would have a problem with.
