my 18” albino silver aro just swallowed a 2cm diameter lava rock. Will he be able to digest or at least dissolve the rock somehow so that it would be able to poop the rock out. It has already swallowed a bigger piece of lava rock before, maybe a couple of months ago, and he seems to be fine. Nothing really changed in its behavior. Any input would be highly appreciated. Thanks

It wouldn't be able to digest it or come out the other way, but it will be able to regurgitate it back out, sometimes days later.

They have a knack for swallowing anything small enough to fit in their mouths. From lead weights from new plants to rubber suction cups, now lava rocks.

Best not to leave these sitting in the tank.

hopefully yours will be okay. hard to say really. here is a video that shows what could happen if your aro is eating your gravel

Thanks for the reply, i’d just keep an eye out for whenever it regurgitates it back out. I haven’t noticed it spitting out the last rocks it swallowed before. Maybe it is still in it’s stomach? I keep my tank bare btw, sometimes lava rocks from my overhead filter somehow drops in the tank. I scoop it out with a net whenever i see some in my tank. But this time the aro got it first before i took it out thats why he was able to swallow it

Thanks for the reply. I’ll just keep an eye on the tank whenever it spits it back out. Hopefully it does, cause i havent noticed it spit the rocks that it has swallowed before. I keep the tank bare btw it, sometimes rocks from my overhead filter just fall in the tank for some reason.

maybe put the lava rocks inside one of those net pouches so they don't tumble out anymore.
