congrats on your wels. I had a wels as well but it took food from my hand. I kept it outdoors in the California summer.......did fine and in the winter it was fine too. Very hardy and can tolerate cold and warm. If I ever move back to Cali I will get back into giant cats but right now Hawaii has very strict laws.
