yes that is free floating algae in ur water. its caused by excessive nutrients in the water column and/or to much light.

is ur tank close to windows or does it get lots of light from some other source?

ways to prevent/fix:

UV sterilizer
Diatom filter
Purigen
reduce light

the tank is against the wall yes there is some light but i can close the shades if that works. what is purigen? also it became green from a few days in, could something be wrong with my tap water? also can you use the purigen in the tank with the fish in it. thanks

i highly recommend reducing as much light as possible. this is Purigen:

you can use it with the fish in the tank, just make sure the Purigen is in a fine mesh bag. you can buy it in the bag, in 100ml baggies. if ur concerned about ur tap water... test it, i would do the same with ur tank regardless of any circumstance. since its the only true way u know the tank has cycled.

thanks for the help guys. i checked the ph level in my tank and its reading fine. probably gonna try the purigen stuff. kind of funny i had some smaller tanks before like up to 20 gallon but this is my first kinda big tank and i never had algae problems before maybe just lucked out before i guess haha.

there's a lot more things that need to be checked. Ph checking is insignficant compared to the importance of checking Ammonia, Nitrite and KH/alkalinity.
