This is a stingray related topic. I am having a bit of trouble keeping my glass clean. Since I can't keep plecos in my 600 gallon Aquarium. I'm using a magnetic cleaner but its a pita. My tank is 10 x 4 x 2. I am running a UV light but I dont think its large enough. Any help on cleaing, controlling algae growth. Or UV lights that will work on my tank.

How long do you have your lights on for? Do you get alot of natural sunlight? I have 3 ray tanks and no algae problems. My light are on for 16 hours a day but I don't have any natural light. I also keep 1 sailfin pleco in each tank. Never had a problem with the pleco and rays.

Only a few hours a day. There is a window close but blinds are closed. Its more like a cloudy film.

Best thing is to just keep the magnet cleaner going. I clean my tank about every couple weeks or so, How often are you? My lights are on from 8am to about 8pm but only two small bulbs running on a timmer, I run 4 when I am viewing like now at nights when the other two have already shut off or if people want to see the tank 6 bulbs are burning over the tank. You should wire up some lights like mine, far better all the way around than tubes.

I wired 4 can lights over the tank and I am cleaning weekly

What type of bulb are you using? I am using a 6500K bulb 17 watts each

Keep the nitrates low. But the white film you are talking about is not algae i belive, its from all the protein\fat rich food we use in our ray tanks. I get it too, and it does not look like algae, but its really easy to get off with an algae magnet here, dunno how it is in your tank?

What type of bulbs? Some times the bulb can cause algae growth if it is the right spectrum.

Sure it is no mineral deposits? How hard is your water?

OK I might start running a drip. Not sure spectrum on lights? Water is around 7.5 . Sounds like it might be from the protein rich diet. Comes back really fast!
