What do people use for algae control in their african tanks? I have a mixed mostly malawi tank. The tank has yellow labs, rusties, peacocks, blue dolphin and acei. I want to do nerite snails but am not sure they will hold up in this tank

Bristle nose plecos work, but may get killed in an already established tank. Ive had one in my 125 for about 2 years. No one notices him.

thanks for the input. i like them but the trio in the tank right now stopped doing their job a long time ago

Sounds like what is left is for the fishkeeper. The nerites will not be very long-lived in a mbuna tank since the fish keep knocking them off the glass. They starve over time since they need to feed constantly on algae to thrive. I flipped mine right side up when I saw them. They also don't clean better than the BN IME.

I use a razor blade for the front glass prior to weekly water change, once every six months for the sides (exterior painted black) and never for the rear since I have an in-tank rock background. My 'algae' is more like the brownish diatoms, never the yummy green that the Mbuna enjoy.:(

6500k florescent lighting, gets cleaned once a month.
Full spectrum led salt water reef light, gets cleaned, twice a week.
