First off let me start by saying ,this is my fault and lesson learned so dont flame me,try and help if you can...I have had my 185 gallon for 6 months with a 55 gallon wet dry sump...I never add chemicals and have had perfect water ..I do approx a 40 % water change weekly and have crystal water with approx 25 cichlids 3-4 inches in length...So the other day I was going to clean the inside of the glass to get rid of that "haze"that forms on the inside..You can only see it in certain light. Its not a water problem, but anyways I had some algae destoyer from when I first got into this hobby because I thought I may need it someday, but never did.So I thought I will add some and maybe I wont have to do the maintenance (not lazy but wanted to see if it would work),It worked, killed every one of my cichlids within 24 hours...I did a 50 % water change after the first deaths within 12 hours and checked the water, still no problems, amonia 0ppm,ph normal, but maybe there was an amonia spike that I missed because I didnt check the water prior to the water change...or maybe the chemical got into the fishs bloodstream and made them toxic?anyways, should I wait a couple weeks to add fish or is my problem over?I dont think the tank needs to cycle again does it?Again all the parrameters are within normal limits and water is crystal clear...Im afraid to add fish for the feasr of what might happen...Please be helpful in your resonses..I know I screwed up and will never add another chemical to my once beautiful tank....oh and yes I follwed the directions on the algae destroyer for dosing....Thanks

First off, hard lesson learned. To keep your tank cycled you should continue to have a bio load on your tank or your bb will die off. I would do another water change and after the change add enough pure ammonia to get a 5ppm reading. I would then do another water change the next day and do the same with the ammonia. After a couple days of this, the chemical should be diluted enough. The ammonia will keep your bb going. Do a test before adding fish and make sure your bb is consuming the ammonia.

I'll be quite honest, I'm not sure how algae destroyer killed your fish.
Not saying that it didn't, I'm just not sure how it could have.
Although you say you had the bottle from when you first started, how long ago was that if I may ask? Maybe it was just an old bottle turned bad?

If your nitrite and amm was 0 and your pH was still high,

I think if your water parameters are still ok, then I might do another water change just in case and re-start slowly. Add a couple fish, see how they do ... checking up on the parameters each time - and then go from there.

It did,I did some research and if you search algae destroyer on this forum ,you will see it does happen ...Bottle was only a year old....Believe me,I thought nothing of it when I added it... 24 hours later all fish are dead accept 2 yellow labs that may or may not make it at this point...I have had 1 fish die in less than a year, and then to have 20 die within 24 hours of putting this crap in...Do the math,it only makes sense....But I know from research people have great results with it and then some people have fish die, maybe because I really did not have an algae problem this contributed to the deaths.I know I am at fault here,no dought about it....

just n update...All my cichlids died except one yellow lab...both algae eaters also died,go figure...Checked all parameters today,ph 7.8 ,0 amonia,0 nitrites,30 nitrates ,the only conclusion I have come to is after adding the algae detroyer I had a sudden amonia spike that I never could detect and the fish became toxic and died one by one...So I started adding new peacocks and haps today...Nice to see some fish in my 180 after looking like a ghost town for over a week......
