I would like to add an algae eater to my Florida Gar tank. Is there one that I can add?

What about a school of large Rosy Barbs?

Most people will advice against plecos, because they may make a habit out of sucking on a Gars slimecoat, during the night when a Gar sleeps on the bottom of the tank.
I got 2large plecos and they never go near my Gar.
Rosie barbs, sure , you're Gar will LOVE those............for dinner!:D

yeah plecos are generally advised against. try some dwarf shrimp. ur gar will eat them but if you stock enough then they will be able to eat some of it. lol. my gar loves ghost shrimp. his favorite!

Ihave a rubber lipped pleco with my florida gars, he doesn't bother them at all, but not recommended.

absolutely no plecos. it might be fine now, but all it takes is one incident and you'll have a dead gar

exactly. only takes one shot. generally a bad idea. get an algae scraper if you have an algae problem, and also go with some live plants. syno cats, prochilodus, and other similar fishes are also advised against. this has been proven time and time and time and time again. one month with no slime issues from a pleco means nothing--
