Algae Eater With Rays??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I honestly dont know. Most are not good and the ones that are more fish like can be eaten by the rays. I usually dont keep them in with my rays at all. I have my tanks over filtered and keep clean. But if you only have rays in the tank, its easy to keep clean and not alot to do. I have sand in all my tanks, so it also stays cleaner since its hard for food to get trapped in the sand.. rocks let food slip into the cracks and besides its not good for rays since it can be rough on them.
Try sand or nothing in the bottom. Just keep rays in the tank. Over filter the tank if you are able to afford to buy a bigger filter and just keep an eye out for any build up on the glass. but your best bet like I said is to over filter

thats true.. they do help also

assuming you're referring to plecos, don't risk it! they will likely suck the slimecoat off the rays

flagtails do a much better job cleaning the glass and don't suck slimecoat as readily, but it's still not a very good idea.

Keeping Rays = scrub the algae on ur own.. no point risking ur ray's life after u spent the hard time acclimating them and feeding them.. spent a few mins each week scrubing the algae.. much safer..:)

Thanks all dont get me wrong I dont have algae i run 2 fx5's and a large uv just wondered if there was a cleaner I could have in tank.

Thanks

flagtail do suck on the slimecoat and to the extent remove some skin as well from the rays. but i'm only notice they will only do this when there is no longer food for them i.e algae. so far i've experience 3 times with some scar on a few marbles. so what i practice now, once the algaes gone, it's time to move the flagtail to another tank ..:)

only time mine has done it is when my orino was sick and very lethargic. There was algae to eat, too, so I'm not sure why. Never trust them completely.

I have kept L200 "Highfin" with rays for years now. No problems yet.

In my mind, the L200 is the best algee eater out there.
