Ok i tried everything else but algae is taking over my tank so I decided to use algae-gone and chem bomb that stuff. In the tank I have some anacharis plants and I also have pothos roots in the tank. Dp I need to take those out when I use the chems? Will they affect the photos which only have the roots in the water or can I just leave it there?

TBH it's been a few years since I've used any of those products.. but I remember they would wipe a tank clean of most life, includeing your bio-filter bacteria. mass alagae die offs also make your water quality screwy to begin with. But yes I use to always remove any plant life I didnt want to die. some plants have survived it but took awhile to come back.

Have you ruled out high phosphates yet? If you havent check that, since my tank had a problem due to high phosphates....

Anything is possible, I honestly don't know. I even increased the water changes and put photos in there hoping it will outcompete the algae but nothing. If anything it even increased. I don't mind a little bit of algae in the tank, but right now 3/4 of the tank is just green, so i have no choice. After only 2 days from scrubing the front glass they start apearing again. I used algae gone before but at that time I didn't have any plants in the tank. It worked really well. I guess I'll just keep the plants in a bucket of water till I finish the treatment.
thanks guys

have you tried overdosing seachem excel? It's not marketed as an algae side, but it does work, and worked for me. Basically, you dose 3-5 x's the recomended dose for a few weeks, while keeping an eye on your fish. It should kill off all the algae but not hurt the plants

Unfortunatelly Seachem products are not available where I am. I guess I could try leaving the plants too and update here for a definitive yes or no. I have plenty of other photos i can use if this one dies and anacharis are pretty cheap and easy to find so it's ok. I'll decide by tomorrow and start the treatment.

I guess personally i try and avoid algae killing products, coz it may help for a little while, but is just waiting to come back again... Only way to defeat it, is to find the problem unfortunately...
