i just recently noticed some algae growing on my anubias and java fern it just typical brown algae that grows on glass also will blacking out the tank for a few days resolve this

I don't know if lights off will help but I have found that using purigen by seachem has kept my tank algae free .

After few months when its brown I notice little green algae spots on glass. after I add a new one the algae is gone.

I do weekly 10% water change but that by itself doesn't seem to be enough.

I've tried blacking out, but I just couldn't stick to it. I felt like my plants were already compromised by the algae & I didnt want to hurt them further. I'm sure I was just being paranoid, though.
I did have great success with adding Otocinclus catfish instead. They just eat the algae constantly. Friggin workhorse... The winning combo for me was: 2) Otto's, stop adding liquid ferts (now using root tabs only), and changing my lighting cycle to 4 hours on-1 hour off-4 hours on-1 hour off-2 hours on-12 hours off with moonlights. Scrubbing helps, but make sure you dont damage the plant leaves. If the plant is already turning thin & brown, just let the Otto get it so you don't make it worse.

BTW, I think my algae was initially caused by me adding liquid ferts with not enough light/CO2.

anubias grows very very slowly. maybe try to move it to a more shaded spot in the tank? can you rub the algae off the leaves?

yes actualy i can rub the algae off the leaves and come to think of it its kind of close to the surface on a piece of driftwood under the light lol

i would love one but i run ac110 hob id have to get a canister filter

Says who? There are several brands/models of UV sterilizers that go in the tank (like a powerhead or HOB). In fact, PetsMart has them on the shelf, so you don't even have to order it! It is in the saltwater section with the Koralias, though... jcardona1 used one with great success: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176951&page=12 Check out post #120.
