Hi all,

I need some help with a algae problem that I have. I have a piece of driftwood in my tank that has some stubborn algae growth on it. I have tried leaving it in the 40 degree sun for several day and scrubbing it but about 1 week after I introduce it back into my tank the algae starts to grow again.

Does anyone have a solution on how to get rid of this unsightly algae growth.

The tank is a 8x3x2 its not heavily stocked and has a huge amount of bio and mech filtration.

The algae covers most of the wood bro so I dont think cutting just that piece will accomplish anything.

You just put this piece in you tank right?

What are your nitrates? Nitrates = algae food. If you have high nitrates, do larger/more frequent water changes. You can also decrease the amount of light your tank gets.

No Sweeed the wood has been there for over 6 months, I have always had the algae problem though.

Cheers Calioutlaw I will check the Nitrate levels tomorrow I nornaly do 30% WC each week but as I feed prawn to all the predatory fish in this tank maybe it has caused the levels to rise.

How much light is in the tank.

get a bn pleco. I have one in my discus tank and he keeps all my wood algae free.

I had 2 adults in the tank but my Tiger Bichir ate both of them
