Okay, my tank has been running for roughly about 5 months now...and the past month there has been some orange kind of light brown blotches on my glass. And some dark green color algae is starting to show on the sand. It's not forming any type of shape but simply it just cover the sand one part to another. Started to show up a little on the glass also...
Now the orange/light brownish blotches on the glass...what exactly are those? How would I get rid of it?...the tank is not looking pretty at all...

diatoms, other wise known as 'new tank syndrome'. its basically a plankton bloom that gets attatched to objects in the aquaria. it will pass.

in mature marine aquariums, diatoms can also be a sign of high levels of nitrites, phosphates, high levels of sillica (added new sand?), or excess light. if diatoms appear later on in the life of your tank, you can bet it will be one of these. so you can use an RO/DI filter to remove nitrates and phosphates, or reduce your lighting schedule to around 8 hrs if you have coral, or feed less.

get a nice group of snails in there no hermits or crabs they kill snails and don't ever eat algae unless its a last ditch effort for food do a snail per gallon and you'll be fine.
