I just set up my 1st reef tank about a month ago. It has about 10-12 lbs of LR, Green button polyps, a finger leather, green ricordea mushrooms, 5 blue leg crabs, 3 astrea snails, and a lawnmower blenny. Ph is around 8.2-8.6, SG around 1.023 and ammonia, nitrite, nitrate is at 0. Dont have test kits for anything else. My problem is the insene amount of algae that has started growing in the past week. I can scrape it all off the front glass and in a few hours there is a new coat of it. Now i have heard about brown algae growing in new tanks and that it will soon pass, but i have brown, green and red. Are these all common also? The current in the tank is fairly weak right now due to no power head or anything. Its on my list of things to purchase along with a protein skimmer. So pretty much what i need to know is this stuff going to pass as time goes by?

Also it is a 20g and has a 24in. Coralife PC with 1 x65w 10k and 1 x65w actinic. Filter is a AC 50 with the media that comes with it. Will be changing to a 10g fuge.

Sounds just like when I had red algae. Most LFS sell a product for treatement. The one I used was just called "Red Algae Remover" and ran about $20. You add a few tiny scoops and the algae was gone within a week (run for a few days with no filters, only water movement, as instructions say).

I had the same problem...
MY solution: added about FIFTY LARGE turbo snails and five algae blenies...
The algae was gone in two weeks, then I sold 4 blenies and 48 snails...

What about the corals? Ususlly not a good idea to use chemicals with them from what i know.

Says that it wont harm corals. I don't have any, only live rock in my tank, but I didn't notice any changes as a result. You could temporarily put the corals in a QT tank just to be safe . You have to do a 20% water change after 48 hrs, so by then the corals should be safe to go back in, but the product does state that it is coral safe. I am telling you that this works great and is much nicer than dumping a kabillion snails in your tank lol
