I have a 75gal discus tank with two separate sumps and returns. In both return hoses I am getting a white-ish color algae that floods the tank and or sump every time I have to turn them on or off. The algae seems to quickly get filtered out of the tank and does not take a foothold on anything in the tank.

The problem that is occurring is that there is a large enough concentration of the algae in the hose that bits and pieces are breaking apart and ending up in the aquarium all day. Common sense dictates taking the hose off and cleaning it out but this is not going to be an easy task AT ALL. :irked:

Is there any other way to get rid of this? It can not be from light since the hose is tucked behind the aquarium and not near a window.

Any help is appreciated.
