My OHF is filled with ugly brown hair algae, I don't care to much about it since I never see it, but I got to think that during a power outage this stuff could die and cause some problems.

I think right now its actually helping, so what do you think should I try and remove it? If so should I then shield the OHF from light to keep the algae from growing more?

There is so much in there you can't see the media any more.

No one has an opinion.

Here you go:

120+ pages of everything you would ever want to know about having Algae in your sump.

According to the thread the Algae is the best thing ever because it will process nitrAtes and remove them from your system in the form of Algae growth. According to the thread you will want to harvest the algae periodically to keep the old algae from dieing and adding Nitrates back into the water.

not quit sure this is the same thing, since that thread which you will not that I followed all the way through :-) and posted comments on is for growing algae on a screen where you can clean the screen to prevent leaching back the very things your removing. Also they type of algae growth is also very different this is brown hair algae the aglae in the scrubber is of another type.

Thanks for you reply.
