I have algae in my large red devil tank. problem is I think he will eat snails and probably could crush clams if I put them in and he harassed a 12 inch pleco last yearpretty bad, so I dont reallly know where to go from here. if I get some HUGE apple snails will that prevent him from suctioning them out of theyre snails? is theyre somthing I can put in my filter to slow algae? and what kinds of plecos are armoured so he wont want to try to beat on them?? if I buy many plecos will that help to ease his agression per fish? just looking to get rid of some algae in a tank

There is no substitute for sticking your hand in there and cleaning your tank. Water changes won't kill you either.

Less light? Maybe cover the tank with a sheet or blanket for a day or 2 and shut the light off. Heck do it after a water change. Don't worry about feeding a large Red Devil ought to be fine.

I have alot of algea in my rd tanks aswell they eat snails and kill pleco's u just have to get in their with a scrub brush and work. The back wall i don't attempt to clean but the front and sides i scrub and while holding the devil back with a divider. Run your lights less do a weekly water change and if u are near a window move the tank beyond that all one can do is get the scrub brush out and do some maintanece.

A mag float will save you all these headaches. Just leave it stuck to your tank and use it every other day.

Mag-floats work great, but the back of your tank will be very difficult to use it on, especially if you have canister hoses and stuff back there. If your tank is long than 4 feet you probably will have trouble reaching far enough behind it too.

Other than cleaning it off, try doing more water changes and leaving the lights on less.

Don't use blankets will heat the tank up.
Use a black background or something similar and keep lights off for a few days.

Adding medias like phosban and purigen will help with excess nutrients, along side regular weekly water changes, and algae scrubbing, you will have very little algae.
