Hello!

A little background, I moved 6 weeks ago, and upgraded my tank from a 90 corner to a 120g.

The 120 had the same filter/decor/etc. All that has been added is 7 new plates, on top of the 1 blood parrot, 2 rainbow cichlids, 3 green severums and 4 nerite snails.

However, ever since I have gotten this new tank, which has no direct light, I seem to be having excess green algae growth. Ammonia and Nitrites are 0, and nitrates are around 10/20.

Anyone have any idea why or what I can do, besides scraping the glass and water changes?

Also, is my stocking too heavy?

Thanks!

To get rid off the algae you could try a bristlenose pleco I've got one in my aquarium and it destroyed the algae

Stocking is fine (assuming plates means platies).
Nitrates are a bit high, not dangerous but enough to fuel algae growth. Getting that down will certainly help.
Bristlenose works, but adding fish only increases the bioload, which is already high.
The tank is also quite new, which, though done with the initial cycle, still will be going through stages of algae blooms due to rapid changes in nutrients.
A good water change schedule and regular glass cleanings will keep algae at bay better than anything.
It also wouldn’t hurt to invest in an algae magnet, it makes cleaning algae much less of a pain.

Thanks all.

The tank is new, but, the filter, gravel, etc is from a 5 year established tank, with the same tank mates.

I changed the light, I think that seemed to be the case. I also did get a bristlenose pleco, which seems to be cleaning. Water changes are helping with what is floating in the water.

Thank you!!

I hope the bristlenose was duly quarantined and not just introduced anew in the tank. The later is never a good idea.
It seems you are having 'new aquarium' blooms, regardless of the seeded filter media. That is common. Patience and water changes should solve that in time. Good luck!

Give it time, every time I change a tank around I get an out burst of algae I set up a tank in january for my gold wolf fish it took about 6 month for the plants to establish themselves and I had hair algae and green water but now 8 months down the line the floating plants and crypts have taken over and algae gone. I do have to clean the glass every 2 weeks as my tank is near a window . It happen to me every time I change a tank around frustrating but the algae will subside.
