Recently I have noticed a thin layer of gunk on my glass. You can't really tell it is there until you do a water change and then see the stuff sitting on the glass itself. My initial thought is that its algae but I am used to green algae, this looks different.

My tank is near a window, but it was setup for 6 months before this stuff started appearing. I took a pic in case it helps.IMG_20130608_194641_376.jpg

Only thing in the tank is a piranha and 3 small tetra. Nothing else has ever been in the tank

It could be algae, as there are some algae that grow or start off looking translucent. I doubt that's snail eggs as they tend to be in little jelly spots rather than spread out everywhere, at least the invasive MTS kind.

IMO just get a magnetic scrubber and call it a day. Scrub it off right before you pull the water out so it gets picked up by your siphon.
