algae on filter media?

I'm have some ceramical rings and bacteria house in my OHF.
However, as my tank light is near the OHF, and is on for abt 5hrs per days, i notice brown/green algae growing on the media.
Will these algea affect the effect of those media?
do i need to clean them?

If you shade the filter it should solve the problem.

clean them first, then shade the filter, if that algae dies it can affect your water quality.

Yes, and Delgado is right about cleaning them if it is more than a thin film of algae. If it is just a little so far than the slow breakdown of the algae will feed the bacteria.

mine is not exact;y green algae. it's actually a brownish type of algea.
