So I upgraded my lighting from 36 watts to 80 on my 200 gallon tank but now my sand is growing algae... its kinda cool looking kinda like grass but my worrie is will it harm my tank or fahaka puffer? I do have a Bristel nose pleco but he doesnt touch the stuff snails would be eaten as long as it doesn't hurt anything I kinda welcome it but if it gets outta control or is bad how do I get rid of it? Ps its deep green like the best grass on your block

I am having the same problem in one of my tanks. Scraping it off doesn't work, it comes back quicker than before.

Flag tail.....

Or Any other sand sifters.

Better filtration might help. Used to happen in my red belly tank till upgraded the filter then I cleaned the and sand and it never came back.

It may not be true algae, but cyanobacteria.
It sometimes occurs under a change of light spectrum, and forms fast growing carpets, and many fish that would normally eat algae, won't touch it.
You can sometimes scoop it up with your hand in sheets, or vacuuming (which may be better, because there may be an over abundance of some micro nutrient in the tank you need to get rid of). Or lack of other minerals the higher plants need
Or it may be the color spectrum of the new bulb is more to the liking of cyanobacteria, than true algae or higher plants.
When I remove marginal plants to the pond, that I overwinter indoors, it blooms in some of my tanks .
