So I acquired what I believe to be a 55gallon tall. Regardless I got it from a customer for free but it had a ton of algae on/in it which I scrubbed the majority of off, but there is still some stubborn stuff left behind on the topical silicone seals. Elbow grease isn't doing it and I now have it full of water and used some anti algae solutions. I would like to use the tank asap, is whatever is left on there harmful? Will an algae eater eat it clean? I believe its algae/mold from him draining and storing without drying. What's the best way to go about this?

Cool

lol i hate it when no-one replies to my posts too bud, I make a post and within an hour i have 30 views and no replies, but some other guy makes a post and within 5minutes he has 150 views with 10 replies?!

Im not expert but i believe a pleco or algae eater should do the trick, those guys can clean anything off the glass, as long as they will be able to reach it ofcourse. Goodluck mate

You could always fill it up with water and add a tiny bit of bleach to it and let it sit overnight, then give it another scrub. Just make sure you rinse really well before filling it up for the final time. I've done that before and its worked perfectly for me. Either way, congrats on the free tank!

Hello; I have had the silicone become blue after using metheyene blue. Could it be a stain from some sort of chemical additive?

Put it in the sun and let the algae dry out then scrub it again :)

Lol riiight. Post had 30 views in 5 minutes, no replies. But im moving the tank to the salon today, gonna bleach and scrub, let dry, scrub again if needed, and then rinse rinse rinse, dry and rinse. Whatever I have to do, tank and supplies could go for 3-4 hundo and I got it for about 5 bucks. Cheers

So i treated the algae with bleach/water, let it sit, scubbed it, then filled the tank, then added bleach, and then scrubbed it again . . . to little or no avail. So i said ef it, scraped the inside seal, going to throughtly rinse for an hour and then continue on rinsing and rinsing and ill seal it back up tomorow, test it sunday, clean her up and fill her monday. Looking forward to puttin up some pics of the finished set up.

What a boytjie!!!
