Algae or Black Mold ? This is some newly purchased Manzanita I've had in my Aquarium for just over a week. Also , I haven't noticed this on any other pieces of the wood in the aquarium. as you can see the output nozzle is directed towards the wood. maybe that is why it's there and no where else.

Did you boil it or leech out most of the tannin by soaking for a few weeks with water changes outside of the tank?

Well , No . I threw it in with my Fish less cycle and my Water looks like dark guinness Beer :D i was expecting tannin and it was my only option so i figured why not throw it in the tank while it cycles for a month ? :D

Most of the time any woods above water surface will have mold (green or black) over time because of the moist unless you have high light output so algae can grow on it, it's happened to me as well and after awhile I ended up cut that wood part out.
