In my 20 Gallon long tank I have a bit of an algae problem forming.

After reading the sticky I have determined that I have brown aglae or diatoms.

"Brown algae:
Forms in soft brown clumpy patches. In the freshwater aquarium, these are usually diatoms. Usually indicates a lack of light or an excess of silicates. Increased light levels will usually make it disappear. Easily removed by wiping the glass or siphon vacuuming the affected area."

It can't be from a lack of light since I have plenty of lighting and it's a small tank. I read that otos can eat the brown algae and I have been trying to rub it off most of the plants, but that is quite ineffective.

Are there any other long term solutions to rid my tank of the brown algae?

How old is your planted tank? Keep in mind some tanks take a long time for diatom algae to disappear, and its is not uncommon to see this on new tanks. Personally my 55g tank took 3 months to get rid of this and it happened naturally.

The tank is at least 2-3 monts old, maybe older. I have only had live plants for about a month..and T5 lighting for about a week. So maybe time is the answer. Any way to get rid of it other than scrubbing if I'm impatient? lol

Scrubbing helps, but it will come back, if it's bad atm just keep with regular water changes and it will help in time also.
