i seem to constantly have a problem with algae in my tank, i have black hair algae which grows on the bogwood and i get spots of it on the glass and now i've got green algae which covers the glass.
the tank is a 75 gallon, the lights are on for approx 7 hours a day, the tank does get natural light from a window but i angle the blinds so the sun does not shine on the tank, i change approx half the water weekly and have to clean the glass each week.
i would like to get it sorted as i'm starting to scratch the glass because of cleaning it all the time :)

What sort of lights are you using? But i would say try cutting back your lighting hours to maybe 4-5 hours max and see if that helps slowly reduce the growth?

I got to the point where I got tired of the same thing happening in my tank. I decided to get rid of all the natural wood and just stick with rockwork. My tank stays so much cleaner. It was like I was constantly cleaning the tank and it always looked dirty.

Too much light, high nitrates and I believe phosphates...arg something like that is usually the culprit for too much algae. Some algae is going to happen...it's natural. I would cut your lights down a bit like others have said and see what happens. Fish don't need light to survive. I usually don't even turn my lights on in my 180 on a daily basis. Lights are for us. So trim it down to when you want to enjoy them. Also sunlight is a lot stronger than a light bulb. Even if it's barely hitting the tank it can have a huge effect.

What's your nitrates looking like in a given week?

^ agreed on the phosphates part as well, my 200G algae problem was from too much phosphates most likely from feeding too much seafood during the week...
