Algae problem

Hey everyone, after having my tank for about 5 months or so, My tank has started to devolop some algae. It grows on the intake on the canister filter, my internal filter, on my plastic plants, my gravel, and my decor (castle, log).

How can I get rid of this? This never happened when i had a pleco so I need a new method of getting rid of it.

The color of the algae is brownish-greenish-dark greenish. Thanks!

Algae pad?
 
i had a really bad algea spike a few weeks ago that i got rid of with an algea pad and "algaefix" brand algeacide.
 
What is an algae pad? Dont tell me I have to manually scrub the gravel, the inside of the tank, and the decor...
 
for the plastic plants, soak them in hot water with salt. check the nitrates in your tank as well as light levels.
 
Before people start telling you to do this, or dump that... Post your physical status (light power, length of lighting period, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, phosphates, iron, gravel) and a better description of the algae itself.
 
do you gravel vac? def list the length on average (and be honest) you leave the light on. if you turn light off just make sure they have oxygen (the fish) bacteria photosynthesies during the day and resporate at night they will use a lot of oxy on you!
