Algae question

Are you growing algea for something to eat or for aesthetics? I cant imagine you would be growing it for looks so I'll assume you have fish eating it? Weird question, everyone tries to get rid of it not keep it lol

I once had a large piece of wood that was completely covered in green brush algae. It was in a planted tank and everyone would ask how I got it to grow like that. I just left it like that for the 2 years I had the tank up because it looked really good.
 
I got some of my rocks covered in algae in 2 months or so on some ruff surfaced rock but I added some big gravel like rocks a long time ago and hasn't grown much algae I'm guessing because the rocks arnt ruff

I like algae covered wood and rock in my tanks, especially the fry tanks.

Seems to grow best for me on wood, where there is a few hours of indirect sunlight.
It looks very natural to me, where ever I have snorkeled with cichlids, it is everywhere, and even predatory species seem to constantly graze on it,
