I'm looking to get an algae scraper. I would like to get one of the magnetic ones, but the one I had a couple of years ago did not work well. And suggestions as to what I should get? Are they all the same, or are some better than others?

The mag ones work fine. PLus, you can always sandwich different cleaning materials/pads in-between for better scrubbing.
Most of the magnet algae scrappers are fine but nothing beats a hand held one with a scrapper like this;
