hi guys

Just got my HOG2 upflow algae scrubber from Santa Monica and I’m pretty excited to see how it does keeping nitrates low. Anyone have one of these already and can share what to expect?

Been almost 2 week nothing growing yet. Emailed them and they told me to cover more and time the air for 18 hr. Waiting for my air valve to come to see if anything going to grow. Just by covering with the blanket didn't seem to work. Let me knkw hows urs

Most tanks, do not have a natural source of turf quality algea. They use, what happens to be green.

It takes about 3 days for a new screen to turn green, once it gets established.

The algea in the tank needs to adapt to the 660nm spectrum.

How big is the tank. What is growing in the tank.

All of my algea, was cultivated from plastic canvas left in ,streams that were growing something I wanted, or was already growing on a small rock, during the summer.

Most algea scrubbers were developed on salt water reef tanks. Already full of live rock.

A blender and a small piece of strand algea, placed inside the scrubber, might jump start it.

My lights, are on 24x7, as is my air. My lights are inside the tank, water proof. Less maintenance with glass fouling.

Was just checking out these Santa Monica units on YouTube last night, pretty interesting and used by some very experienced and knowledgeable aquarium peeps -- please keep us updated of how yours goes, good luck.

How' your screen growing. Here' my new one today with a week of growth. With 5 leds. About 10 watts. 24x7.

This will drop algea into the fry tank, kind of an automatic feeder. Grow your own.

Still nothing yet after they told me to remove the black cloth and do lighting and air for 24/7

Mine is starting to grow a nice layer of Algae over all of the white. Not sure how long to let it grow for before cleaning it out? Any recommendations?
