I have 4 freshwater tanks with live plants. Two of my tanks have algae issues. I recently purchased 20 olive nerite snails from AZ Aquatic Gardens to put in my 20 gallon tank that had a layer of algae on all the rocks and plant leaves. I wish I had before and after pictures to show.

I can only describe the results after 2 weeks as nothing short of amazing. They have removed 80% of the algae already. I assume that there will zero algae in my tank in 5 more days. They strip the algae off the plants without eating the plants.

I have no connection to this company other than being a VERY satisfied customer.

So, if you take the snails out, you'll get your algae back???... Algae is from poor water quality/excessive lighting. Cut your lighting back and increase your water change schedule IMO.

Serious planted tanks sometimes just get algae. Finding the perfect mix of high lighting, co2 and fertilizer can be elusive. Any serious planted tank enthusiast has had issues with algae.

Planted or not, most tanks have algae issues at one point. I have a 50, moderately to heavely planted and algae is not an issue. It was, but as I said, I changed my lighting period (now goes off for 2 hours mid-day) and increased my water changes (full 50% up from 30% weekly). It's just my opinion/experience.
