I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium and I have never seen any “green” algae ever. I have seen this brown/dark orange algae look a like stuff but it is hardly appearing anywhere. Any idea why this (algae) is brown or is this even algae?
Edit: and also why isnt there any algae growing in my tank lol? I know it can be a nuisance, but I kinda want “some” lol
Anyways thanks for reading and thanks for any replys!

It is by a window but not much sun and I have a timer for 7 hours per day here are some picture of what I got growing in there.22D4520C-A1DB-477C-BDA6-474433F8724F.jpegCCA259A8-D578-429D-B50D-351B0E607EC6.jpegC8A22C12-295C-4BC5-9F8C-B3EC924F21DA.jpeg3309B346-209A-4722-A200-D17C71F0E8B3.jpeg5B399547-39AC-47AA-9E3B-DD4C128522AE.jpeg

Edit: theres a picture of the nest hes making and it seems hes building a pile right in the middle of the nest. Real interesting I think could he be a she?

given enough light you will get green algae, pain in the butt on the glass.

Yeah, you really need to careful what you wish for. Algae, for most of us is a pain in the butt. It can take a while to get going depending on light and nutrients but once it gets a foothold it is extremely persistent.

A couple of months down the line and your threads will be titled "damn algae, how do I get rid of it".

Enjoy your algaeless tank.........for now!

Interesting. Thanks for the reply! Anybody with more info on this diatom stuff please share. I will do some other research on google for now lol.

Well is this brown stuff algae or something else? Why isnt it green?

Diatoms, but it's normally included under the umbrella of "algae" even if it technically isn't. Algae isn't all green. Some is blue, some is green, some is brown, some is red, some is black...

Then there's coraline algae which can be purple, pink and a few other shades. And cyanobacteria, which is a bacteria...

Then there's the macro algaes...
