Algae

Hi All,

I've just installed my DIY Led & Moonlights a week or so ago. Ever since I've been getting large amounts of green/brown algae on the glass. Never had this issue when I was using the fluro lights.

Is this simply because of the intensity of the leds?
If i reduce the time that they are on, should that help?

Try leaving them off longer. Could be the increased intensity, or the color spectrum.

I've turned the white leds down to 4hrs a day and the blue moonlight to 2hrs

Yes, reducing the lighting time will help. Good LED's are much more intense than regular t8 flouro's (did you have t8's or t5's?)... You could also diffuse the lighting with window screen, eggcrate lighting diffusers, or even some toilet paper. By diffusing them enough you could be able to keep them on longer while reducing the chances that your tank will turn into an algae farm.

I've changed the times and duration they are on for. White will only be on from 4pm till 8pm, then the blues/moonlights will be on till 10.
I think the fluro was a t5.

In addition you could try reducing the amount that you feed your fish.
