I JUST CLEANED OUT MY TANK TAKE OUT THE DRIFT WOOD AND SCRUBED THEM AND TRIMMED ALL MY PLANTS LEAVING NO SIGN OF ALGE. IS THERE ANY THING THAT IM DOING WRONG. AND LIGHTS ARE ON FOR 8 HRS. PLEASE HELP.:SaiyanSmi

could you list some o the stuff your running like:
filtration
watts on light and what kind
size tank
stock list
feeding

that kind of stuff

make sure your water parameters are up in good condition

you can try to do an algea screen to outcompete for nutrients

okay here is what you do

1. FOOD dont over feed

2. FERTS stop useing ferts your plants dont need them if there is so much left over for alge

3. LIGHT up the time your lights run as this ups the time your plants can make use of the absorb all that good stuff in the water. The longer the lights are on the less nutrients in the water.

Bottom line here is you have to much nutrients in your water. the subtrate and uneaten food will leech more over time but at certain rate. your key is the outpace the leaching with the growth of your plants.

Alge doesnt need alot of light to grow so it uses the nutrients that your plants dont while the lights are off and even when they are on because your water is over saturated.

BEFORE you start all the steps above it would be wise to scrub all the alge off that you can find right now then do a 30% water change. the water change will lower the consentration of nutrients in your water very fast and give time for the other methods to work long term.

ALWAYS REMEMBER you want ferts and nutrients in the substrate as all your rooted plants will get them there you want little to none in the water as that is the only place alge will get it.

SIMPLE
:D

P.S i keep my 54 corner planted tank fully lighted 10 hours a day and some spread out 20watts of light on 24 hours a day as a little moon light. a little extream but my plants grow and metabolize 24hours a day and i have NEVER EVER EVER had an alge issue... or any alge at all and my plants are happy and growing well.

THANKS FOR THE ADVISE ALHAZRED. IM GOING TO TRY WHAT YOU SAID. YA MY PLANTS STARTED TO GROW BRON ALGE ON THE LEAVES AND SOME GREEN STUFF ON THE DRIFT WOOD. SHOULD I SHUT DOWN THW CO2 ALSO!!!

oh black hair algae thats tough,

dirty little secret spot dose flourish excel

I have the same problem. I cut down my photoperiod and getting some excel CO2 this weekend. So far cutting the lights time has really helped.

before you go out and change what youre doing, answer these questions:

- what size tank, what type of lighting, how many watts?
- how heavily is the tank planted?
- what are you doing for carbon/co2?
- what are you doing for ferts?

more often than not, this is the solution to pretty much all algae problem. too much light, not enough carbon

FOR CARBON ALL I HAVE IS A 110 AQUACLEAR. I HAVE 108 WATTS OF LIGHT FOR 8 HOURS A DAY. AND I USE FLOURISH TWICE A WEEK. TODAY I RE BOILED ALL THE DRIFT WOOD HOPING IT KILLED THE GREEN ALGE AND I SCRUBED ALL THE ALGE OFF THE THE GLASS AND DID A 30% WATER CHANGE.
